Pipe Pile Projects

1. Mozambique Nacala Port, Mozambique.

Project Details: Steel pipe piles with big diameter made an ideal selection due to their very limited clutches per metre of wall. Totally 2500 tons of 1200x18 steel pipes are needed for this project. X52 steel grade in API 5L standard. The connector are smaller diameter steel tubing. The sealing of the clutch is at least half that of other steel piles and this also means less risk of seepage for the Contractor. Calculations were carried out in order to ensure that the stringent requirements of the Client and the Contractor were met whilst at the same time the budget constraints needed to be adhered to. Extra clutches were sent along with the shipment to ensure that if any special corners were needed to be turned or obstacles caused a variation in the driving line. During installation, our engineers are on site to make sure no mistakes happen

2. China South Sea Project, China.

Project Details: The diameter is unbelievably 21m,Length over 50m.The whole pipe pile is made by 30 smaller cells. These cells are produced in Grand Piling’s factory, and then welded at jobsite. Thickness is 12-14mm thickness. The driving hammer is designed specailly for this project.

3. Rotterdam Port, Container Terminal. 2009

Project Details: This is a combbined wall system.A pairs of AZ sheet piles are welded between two pipes, connected by C9 interlocks.  The soils are very soft, which mean the wall must have a very high modulus of section. Finally clients accept Grand Piling’s Combined systems. 1500x18 pipes piles are used S355 steel grade, over 2500 tons.  Length from 25 to 35m.C9 interlocks are also supplied and welded by Grand Piling.

4. GNL Quintero Project, Chile.

Project Details: This is another big tubular combined walls of sheet pile and steel pipes Grand Piling has done for oversea market. Steel pipe dimensions are 1219x18, X52 steel grade as per API 5L standard. We also supplied the sheet piles and the interlocks. Total quantity is over 5000 tons, and we use bulk vessels to ship to Chile port specially. Some pipes are painted in this order. The painting system and surface preparation of the steel Piles and sheet piles including other accessories had to cater for the environment category of C5M as stated in BS EN ISO 12944 and ISO 9223. The coating comprised of two layers of epoxy mastic totaling 400 um dry film thickness. Jotamastic 87 was used for this task. The surface preparation was sandblasted to SA 2.5 according to ISO 8501-1. All the sheet piles, tie rods, waling beam and other steel items were provided with these protective coatings.

5. Gasoducto Andino del Sur Project, Peru.

Project Details: 654 tons of Ø1,219mm x 32mm LSAW tubular piles in varying lengths from 13m to 20m with numerous accessories such as clutches, lifting lugs, bolt connections, hose connections, shear connections, tie rod bracket and others. 140 tons of infill sheet piles in lengths varying from 7 to 13m for the project. The unique aspects of the project were dealt with by us through constant dialogue with clients. Design evolution during the project construction required the manufacture from us to be very dynamic and able to facilitate change.

6. Reggane Nord Project, Algeria.

Project Details: 2800 tons of Ø1,540mm x 20mm SSAW tubular piles. 720 tons of AZ18-700 and C9 interlocks to connect sheet piles and the wall. The piles required 1,500 microns of Jotun’sBaltoflake applied in various lengths before shipping. The clutch tolerances were made after specific discussions with the contractor taking into consideration the length of the tubes and sheet piles and the design requirements for hot rolled clutches for combi wall systems. The guide is essential in the efficient installation of long marine sheet pile walls. Without it productivity is greatly reduced as well as the straightness and aesthetics of the final wall. With Ports globally getting deeper and deeper in order to handle the bigger vessels and other newer and larger conventional vessels in is expected that more and more clients and Port owners will look to these very solutions for their requirements.

7. Gas Pipeline Project, Pakistan.

Project Details: Steel tubular combined walls are chosen for this project. 4200 tons of various dimensions steel pipes are supplied with welded interlocks welded on. Shipping was done by bulk vessels to save costs. A cathodic protection was incorporated to act together with the corrosion protection coating to meet the 50 year design life. This decreased the sacrificial thickness of the sheet pile for the residual bending capacity at the 50 year design life. All construction works were completed while keeping the facility working. This allowed the client to continue operations at full or near full capacity. Construction was successfully completed in time and the berths were commissioned for use.

8. Manzanillo port, Mexico.

Project Details: This is a job using cold rolled sheet piles and steel pipes, connected by cold rolled connectors. The project last for 2 years in 4 phases. Totally over 26000 tons of various sheet piles, pipe piles,H beams etc are used. The steel piles were painted in the China facility with Jotamastic 87 to a 500 micron DFT (dry film thickness) in compliance with IM2 and C-5M of ISO 12944 for a 15 year durability rating. The total design life of the quay wall structure was 50 years. The tie rods were wrapped in anti corrosion tape. The design of the tie rod connection to the main wall consisted of a waling beam with a mounting bracket for the eye of the tie rod, which could be mated after the reinforced capping beam was installed and cast. The sheet piling system was designed with an increased loading surcharge of 20kPa and a seismic rating of Zone 2A.

9. Van Phong Terminal Project phase II Vietnam. 2010

Project Details: The project requires very long pipes.1800x18,Length minimum 55meters.Due to the fact that this project has very strict requirements on pipes,API 5L PSL1 standard was followed, steel grade was X50,pipeline grade. To load these pipes onto vesels,Grand Piling brought in a big barge crane, handling ability up to 150 tons. The client charter a bulk vessels themselves.

10. Mozambique Nacala Port, Mozambique.

Project Details: 2654 tons of Ø1,219mm x 32mm LSAW tubular piles in varying lengths from 13m to 20m with numerous accessories such as clutches, lifting lugs, bolt connections, hose connections, shear connections, tie rod bracket and others. Besides,we also supply 740 tons of infill sheet piles GPZ18-700 in lengths varying from 7 to 13m. This system is installed with the tubes or king piles first using a driving guide. Once the tubes are installed the guide is removed and the Z type sheet piles installed between the spaces and slotted in using the special clutches attached to the tubular piles. The project saved considerable time and money for the contractor and was a very successful first tubular combi wall application for Grand Piling.
